As a dentist, I feel one of the most important things our team can offer our patients is education.  This includes the nuts and bolts of proper hygiene to education on dental procedures and treatment options. It is why we have created this blog.

If you have questions please email them to us and we would be happy to address them for all in our blog. Proper hygiene includes effectively brushing your teeth two times a day and flossing one time per day.

Don't be surprised if you get a pop quiz on this from myself or another staff member. I had a patient tell me one time, "I just brush for four minutes every morning." I quickly asked him how often he changed his oil on his vehicle.

"Every 4,000 miles or so," was his response. I asked him why he just didn't change his oil twice on one day and wait for 8,000 miles until he has to fool with it again.  "Because it just doesn't work that way."

Exactly, it just doesn't work that way. We typically eat three meals a day as well as snacks but we only have to brush twice daily. A point of emphasis I have is to effectively brush your teeth.

You must be actively and effectively brushing your teeth. If you are having problems let our clinical staff know. We would be glad to help you refine your technique. Another point of emphasis is flossing one time a day.

There is not a toothbrush that can clean between your teeth. We will be glad to help you with your flossing technique as well. We value education and the cornerstone of dental hygiene is proper home care.

We only get to help our patients clean their teeth a few times a year, you get to clean your teeth a few times a day.

As you see in the photo I've applied some dental speak into a famous proverb: "Brush and floss a man's teeth and save them for a day. Teach a man to brush and floss his teeth and save them for a lifetime."
