What is a dental crown?
Dental crowns are a highly beneficial tool in the dental field. They can be used to cap a damaged tooth, restoring it to full function, as well as to attach to dental implants to replace missing teeth and provide support for dental bridges. Taking care of crowns is also straightforward, as they require the same brushing and flossing as regular teeth.
What is a dental bridge?
At Alpha Dental, we design and install custom dental bridges to fill gaps caused by missing teeth. Our bridges are securely held in place with abutment crowns or precision metal mechanisms. Every bridge is custom-made to ensure that it looks natural and is able to provide the desired performance.
How long do dental crowns and bridges last?
The lifespan of dental crowns and bridges depends on factors such as oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and the materials used. On average, dental crowns and bridges can last between 5 to 15 years or more with proper care.
How are dental crowns and bridges placed?
The process of getting dental crowns and bridges involves several steps. For crowns, the tooth is first prepared by removing a portion of its outer structure to accommodate the crown. Digital Impressions are then taken to create a custom-made crown, which is placed over the prepared tooth and secured with dental cement. For bridges, the adjacent teeth are prepared similarly to receive crowns, and the bridge (with pontics attached) is then cemented into place.
Can dental crowns and bridges be whitened?
While dental crowns and bridges themselves cannot be whitened like natural teeth, they can be replaced or modified to match the shade of whitened natural teeth. If you’re considering teeth whitening, it’s best to discuss your options with your dentist to ensure that your crowns and bridges blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
